A task force has been set up to help expand construction capacities and accelerate investment projects directly, and it will be led by Csaba Gyutai, the Minister of Finance said in a video uploaded to Facebook after the meeting of the Economy Protection Operational Unit.

Mihály Varga said that the focus of Tuesday’s meeting was on how to stimulate the construction industry, the building materials industry and the construction economy, as there are 110,000 businesses operating in this sector, employing 340,000 people.

Mr Varga mentioned that they discussed and accepted a proposal aiming to speed up and simplify regulatory procedures for issuing permissions, as well as handling procedures related to environmental impact assessment and public utilities. In addition, they want to automatically extend building permits until the completion of the project, which extension would apply to permits expiring within one year after the end of the emergency.

The Finance Minister also noted that building and technical regulations and standards will be made more efficient, based on the Polish and German models.

Procedures regarding construction and electricity connections are to be shortened by half with the introduction of a 10-point bureaucracy reduction package.

The main objective for the operational unit continues to be to act as a kind of accelerator, and to create proposals and measures that can accelerate the economic activity of businesses focusing on investment or development, the Finance Minister said.
