Swiss-based energy company MET Group acquires a 100 percent stake in a 60-megawatt wind farm in Bulgaria after signing a share purchase agreement with Spanish group Grupo Enhol.

The transaction is an important step in the implementation of MET's renewable strategy, which aims to create a 500 MW renewable energy portfolio in Central and Eastern Europe by 2023. With the current acquisition, MET's wind farm capacity in Bulgaria will increase to 102 MW.

On July 30, 2021, MET Group signed a share purchase agreement with Grupo Enhol, a family-owned Spanish company specializing in renewable energy,

to acquire its 60-megawatt wind farm Suvorovo Wind Park along the coast of the Black Sea in western Bulgaria. The transaction is expected to be closed in the third quarter of 2021.

Suvorovo Wind Park, which represents 8.5 percent of Bulgaria’s total wind power capacity, consists of 30 Gamesa G90 wind turbines of two megawatts each.

The wind farm, which has been operating since 2012, produces 120 GWh (gigawatt hours) of electricity per year, which is sufficient to supply about 38 thousand households.

MET Group considers the growth in its renewable electricity production in Central and Eastern Europe as a central element of its business strategy. With the current transaction, MET will further strengthen its presence in the Bulgarian renewable market after acquiring the 42 MW Black Sea Wind Park earlier this year.
