A brilliant British writer, Louis de Bernieres better grasped the gist of all arguments against the present EU than a good deal of “experts” /FT, 25 January/26 January 2020/.
It is certainly true, that “the euro zone contains incompatible economies, and so it is impossible to fix an interest rate or a general economic policy that fits them all”. Period.
But there is something even more awesome than that.
We all want to belong to a community with a shared identity; however, by now it is blatant that there is no such thing as European identity. That is the main culprit for the failure of the present EU.
