The Bank of Korea is the latest central bank in the region to test a digital currency, following the path of the PBOC and the BoJ.
They will examine the functionality of central bank digital currency in a virtual environment in order to introduce a digital won for broader use. The PBOC has been conducting public trials of its digital yuan in several cities for 8 months.
In Europe both virtual and public trials of digital currencies are worth to launch. In the meantime, all western and eastern experiments should be evaluated for the euro zone and also for other EU countries with their national currencies.
This time it is a must for Europe not to be lagging behind America and Asia.
